Every day you are telling yourself stories.

Many of these stories have to do with how you see yourself, how you perceive others see you, and what you believe you are capable of. This collection of stories often goes unmoderated, both consciously and unconsciously guiding your choices. Ultimately, making up the whole of who you think you are. So, when it comes to deepening your relationship with yourself, what does it take, you ask? My experience is that it takes a willingness to unpack your collection of negative narratives and get curious about the stories that you are aligning yourself with.

Over time, without examination or exploration, you are setting yourself a shaky foundation. Your stories stack up like a house of cards, vulnerable to each brisk wind that blows by. Every action you take or don’t take in life is a choice that you are making. In essence, you are building yourself out of your stories, each and every day.

When your life is working for you, and you feel good, then yay!

Time Marches On…

At some point in time though, possibly in your thirties, forties or fifties, you get the rug pull of life and plot twist! Your shaky foundation crashes into reality. A reality that doesn’t even slightly align with the story you’ve been telling yourself. This moment is a crucial moment. It’s painful and illuminating! Furthermore, though you might disagree, it’s a gift. Life is pointing very specifically at the work you have to do for yourself.

As you navigate the reality that your stories are out of alignment with reality or that you are limiting yourself on multiple levels, it’s painful. And, until you are actually ready to get curious about your stories, life will keep slapping you in the face with similar realities. You can continue like this, reality, slap, reality, slap, until you are ready to start making changes.

I can’t prove reincarnation, but I promise you, we all reincarnate past patterns, past wounds, our habits and beliefs into our present lives. The smacks keep coming, and it goes on like this until you are ready to slow down and look at these stories. Owning that the stories you’ve been telling yourself, and holding on to all these years, are the primary source of the life you have manifested. You are living it right now, and if you don’t like it, then you are going to have to make changes.

What is important to hear, all the negative stories, the useless biases, negative self-talk, inner critic, and harsh beliefs’ that support the floundering story are utterly false. Within you is the power to re-write the narrative. Furthermore, you can have a fantastic relationship with yourself. One based on honesty and compassion, empathy and accountability.

Good Morning – Welcome to Your Wake Up Call!

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”  Mary Oliver

In the words of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are all spiritual beings having a human experience.” If we can remember this truth, it has the power to give us perspective as we muddle through the ups and downs of the folly we call life. It is also the fundamental ingredient of a strong foundation.

We often take the outside experiences far too seriously. Wasting time, fighting with external realities, attempting to make people or situations different than they are. Banging our heads against the proverbial wall, all the while we discount our internal process, the place our power lives. Ignoring that our experience in the world is based on our beliefs, our perspectives, our judgments, and preferences. Somewhere along the way, we lost sight of the fact that these elements of importance are what we have the power to change. There are very few things that I am entirely sure of. One of the super secrets of the universe is: You have the power to change. Deepening your understanding of your attitudes, your mindsets, your internal negative narrative, and deepening your relationship with yourself.

Super Secret of the Universe…

Here it is, hold your hat… What I know for sure is that the longest and most intimate relationship you will have in your entire life is the one you will have with yourself. You were there the day you were born taking that first breath, and you will be there for that last breath of your life. You are the most essential and primary relationship of your life.

Inside of you is the only person who has the profound ability to read your mind. No surprises here, you know what you like and what you don’t. Your internal awareness reads the shifting of emotion and energy in your body. Not only that, you have the amazing ability to choose your attitudes, beliefs, and shift and change the same attitudes and beliefs. Trust me here, you are worth curling up by the fire and getting to know.

It’s Foundational

We develop our stories from our life experiences. We get them from our families, friends, and the external culture around us. Spending time getting to know yourself, digging below the surface of your stories, is one way to take back your power. Developing your understanding of your motivations, questioning your beliefs, and exploring what has meaning and why is always a worthy endeavor. This intimate relationship with yourself is the foundation for every other relationship that you will have in your life. It colors how you will be with all the other people you will meet along the journey. Your ability to develop insights and grow awareness about who you are, what you need, and then learn to take care of yourself is a cornerstone for the way you will move through the ‘one wild and precious life’ you have been given.
